What to check if AI does not recommend your business
SurgeLab checks every day whether AI assistants recommend its customers. When one is missing, these are the things we look at first.
Five things to check on your own site
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Your prices are on your own site | Assistants answering “how much” or “cheap” questions can only quote a price they can read. |
| Your opening hours are written in plain words | Hours shown only in a picture cannot be read, so “open now” questions skip you. |
| Your reviews are recent | A steady trickle of new reviews shows you are still trading. |
| Your address is the same everywhere | One address on your site, maps and directories stops you being mistaken for someone else. |
| You answer common customer questions on your site | A short questions-and-answers section gives assistants a sentence they can repeat. |
Five places to be listed
| Where | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Google Business Profile | The listing behind Google Maps and much of what Gemini knows about local places. |
| Apple Business Connect | Puts you on Apple Maps, which Siri reads from. |
| Bing Places | Feeds Bing, which ChatGPT and Copilot search with. |
| Yelp | A review site many assistants cite for local businesses. |
| Trustpilot | Widely cited for reviews of businesses that sell online. |
None of these is more important than the others, so the order of each table is not a ranking. SurgeLab is using this page to study whether AI assistants repeat lists in the order a page gives them.
